January 28, 2009

The ice storm arrived during the night.  Thank goodness I don't work anymore and have to venture out in it.  I took this from the covered part of our back porch.  I'm not walking on that stuff!

January 27, 2009

We got a few inches of snow today and are expecting an ice storm tomorrow.  I got something too - a migraine of course.  I hate to take these but can't live without them.

Since our house is so old, we have old fashioned closets.  They aren't even wide enough to hang clothes sideways so we use our closets for other things.  I love to read but have alot of trouble getting rid of a book after I read it.  I want to keep most of them.  So Rick made me book shelves out of one closet.

Katie has this thing about putting her ball in our shoes and then trying to get it back out.  I can never quite capture her doing it.

The Weeds & Wildflower challenge this week is to take a self-portrait.

January 23, 2009

Wow, it's a heat wave before the next cold front hits!  We both got outside today.  I took Katie for a nice long walk and Rick washed the salt off Mom's old car  and sprayed all the dirt and grime out of the garage floor which had been piling up the last month.  You can tell from the photo how warm it was but we still have a bit of snow.

It finally warmed up enough to visit the park and see if I could get some photos of the ducks and geese.  I got lots of photos but DUH! forgot to change the setting on the camera.  Got some okay shots but this was the best one.  I love to photograph birds and nature.  I'm just not too good at it!

January 21, 2009

It's still extremely cold here.  Since I don't work anymore, I don't go out in it much.  I never noticed before how stir crazy you can get just hanging around the house.  I have plenty to keep me occupied but knowing that it's even to cold to take the dog for a walk seems to make me restless.  We cleaned the old bread, pita pockets, and muffins out of the refrigerator but threw them out the window for the poor birds.  This was taken through the (dirty) glass in my kitchen.

This photo represents what we did on inauguration day - we sat on the couch all day and watched the TV.

Backup. backup, backup! Need to purge also but just can't bring myself to do it!

January 18, 2009

Since the pond has frozen, Katie has found new space in the backyard. It worries me now that she'll try to get on it when it's not frozen enough to support her weight and fall through. She's never done this before.

January 17, 2009

Still cold here but I stepped outside long enough to snap a photo of these poor birds huddled around a neighbor's chimney to keep warm!

January 16, 2009

It was extremely cold here this morning -8 degrees.  It was the coldest it's been here in fifteen years.  Since our house is extremely old it can be a bit drafty sometimes, so hubby and I watched TV and spent the day in the living room with the fireplace going full blast.

Photos for January 13 & 14

January 14, 2009

We can't leave bird seed in the feeders because of the pigeons so sometimes we feed them several times a day. Katie just goes nuts. She thinks we fill the feeders so she can chase the birds. I was delighted to get this photo this morning.

January 13, 2009

We had lots of snow all day but no accumulation. Some of it quite large flakes.

Photo for January 12

I ventured outside for the first time in a few days.  The sparrows are about the only birds our backyard attracts besides pigeons.

This is what I want to see when I come downstairs in the mornings - my coffee ready to go.  I have a timer on the pot and I seldom forget to fix the coffee, but I get distracted and forget to push the timer button!  On those mornings, no coffee ready and waiting!

January 10, 2009

I only have one thing to say about this photo I took on Saturday the 10th - MY DOG?

January 9, 2009

I finally broke down and went to the doctor. I felt like I had a really heavy weight on my chest and it was difficult breathing. Of course, he is one of those doctors who believes in shots. So about three hours afterwards, I really felt much better. Here's hoping I'm on the road to recovery.

Photos for January 7 & 8

This taking a photo a day is a bit harder than I thought it would be.  I've had a bad cold and now my bronchial tubes are inflamed.  Since I don't want to go out, I need to find something inside the house.

One of my favorite dishes - Taco Soup. A Weight Watcher chili-like soup that's  great on a cold winter day, especially since the furnace was off again this morning.

Now that's a bill I'm going to dread getting! It took around 5 hours labor, a new control board, and ignitor to get it going again.  Of course,  it's getting old but what isn't?

I ended up using another photo today than the one I had planned. Around 4 pm today , the furnace shut down.   Since the HVAC shop closes at 5,  I didn't know if they would get here today. Of course, since I worked there for 13 years I was hoping they would find time for me!  But sometimes it's just not possible.  The boss showed up after 5  and finally got it going around 7 pm.  Yeah!  We'll have heat tonight!   Here's my shot for today:

Jerald

Jerald's a good guy and I sort of miss working for him. I don't miss the public but sometimes I miss the job!

Photos for January 5 and 6

Here are the photos I took for January 5 & 6.

January 6 - My Zutter Bind It All came.   I love to make little albums and I'm hoping this makes it easier.  I have alot of trouble punching the holes.  Of course the locking mechanism on the right broke as I was taking it out of the box, but they said they would mail a replacement.

January 5 - Photos of Katie.  This is how my floor looks every morning when I come downstairs or just about anytime.  Katie loves her toys

Of course, how can you scold her when she looks at you so innocently?

Let's play

Here's another of her guarding them.

These are her favorites and only a fraction of what she can spread around.

I wasn't too happy with my varnish on top because it left some yellow spots on the tiles. But the family is usually happy to get something like this. My sister was here for Xmas so she took hers before I got a photo of them.
